Samara Day 2, 3, & 4

Hey everyone! Tried to update the blog the last few days, but it has been cloudy, and since the internet is solar powered, this wasn't a possibility. Amazingly enough, Samara got its first snow since 1992. It has been very cold and rainy, which is kind of a downer, but the animals are still surprisingly active and used to this cold winter weather. It is supposed to warm up tomorrow though! Yesterday we walked through the property for about 5 miles, and saw all sorts of amazing wildlife. The property is huge so I only saw a small fraction. My two leaders, Haley and Alwyn, and I had a standoff with a male rhino and his young, but after a few steps at us and a couple of stomps on the ground, they took off into the brush. There are all sorts of antelope of the property, but my personal favorite is the Kudu because of its amazing horns and mask-like face. The first night we made a campfire, warmed up some Sherry in the braai (campfire), and enjoyed the cold evening. Day 3 we did some land rehabilitation work in the fields that have been eroded. Built some rock dames to redirect the runoff water into areas that need water. Day 4 (today) we went to the south side of the property and saw some ostrich, red heartbeest, lots of interesting birds, springbuck, and checked out this dried out water hole with lots of interesting footprints. I will add another post that will include my pictures so far!
